Sock Monsters n' other stuff

Ever wondered what happens to all the socks that just seem to vanish off the face of the earth? Well, they become sock monsters of course! Now, I know what you’re saying, “but what is a sock monster?” A sock monster is exactly what you would expect, a living sock that hides in the shadows under your bed. If you ever saw one of them, you’d probably assume it was just a plain boring sock, although the chances of you actually seeing one are incredibly low.

Despite what you may think at first, sock monsters are surprisingly fast. They move around almost like a caterpillar, arching their body and then pushing themselves outwards causing them to slip and slide along the floor at extraordinarily fast speeds (even faster if it’s a laminate floor). They use their speed for two things. The first being to escape being caught by a human being put into a pair. If you ever did manage to somehow catch a sock monster and pair it with another sock, it would no longer be a sock monster, and would transform back into a regular old non-living sock. The second being to collect things which get dropped on the floor, or that roll under the bed. If you’ve ever found yourself thinking to yourself “I could have sworn that thing landed here” yet it’s no where to be seen, almost as if its just mysteriously vanished, chances are a sock monster swooped in and took it before you even got the chance to look for it.

I’m sure you’re probably asking yourself, what do they need all this stuff for? They use it for furniture of course! After all, everyone needs furniture, even sock monsters. Depending on their location, sock monsters will collect different items. For instance, if you have a younger sibling who collects Lego, the sock monsters which live under their bed might use any stray Lego bricks to build their furniture. Or if you or one of your family members own a pair of wireless earbuds and one of them falls out after an intense dance session (or maybe they just fall out because you have small ears and they’re too big, I’m not here to judge) the sock monsters living under yours or your family members bed might use it as a little speaker or radio. After a little while however, they tend to get bored of these items and so they’ll return them by leaving them in a place you would least expect them to be, leaving you scratching your head wondering how it got there.

So next time you’re sat there wondering “where did all the socks go?” or wondering where that thing you dropped just went, now you’ll know that there’s a group of sock monsters hiding somewhere in the darkness under your bed using all your lost things to furnish their house.
